La Campagne BDS France, le 1er décembre 2018
La Saison croisée France Israël devait être un grand événement en l’honneur de la coopération culturelle, scientifique, gastronomique, etc … entre la France et Israël.
Ses promoteurs voulaient faire de cet évènement une opération pour blanchir l’État d’Israël de ses crimes contre le peuple palestinien, de ses violations constantes du droit international et des droits humains universels. Ce que nous avons dénoncé, avec des dizaines d’artistes et de structures artistiques françaises.
Le but de cette saison était pour les autorités israéliennes (et françaises!) de façonner et d’imposer une « image » attractive, et conviviale : celle d’un État à la pointe du high tech, ouvert aux échanges, à la diversité culturelle, aux critiques et à des courants dissidents, et même respectueux des droits humains. Mais l’année 2018 restera comme celle du vote de la loi fondamentale de l’état-nation, qui donne à l’apartheid un statut constitutionnel et celle de massacres à Gaza contre des manifestant-e-s mobilisé-e-s pour le droit au retour – et dont beaucoup ont été délibérément estropiés par les tirs de l’armée israélienne.
BDS France est intervenue dès le premier évènement labellisé « Saison France Israël » : à l’Université de Lille 1, le 11 février dernier, et a dénoncé, avec le soutien de nombreux universitaires, l’exposition « Escale israélienne » qui a dû être annulée.
80 artistes dont Jean-Luc Godard ont déclaré qu’ils ne participeraient pas à la Saison France-Israël.
Puis les mobilisations contre les évènements programmés se sont poursuivies dans différentes villes dont (par ordre alphabétique) : Choisy-le-Roi, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Paris, Perpignan, Rennes, Strasbourg, Toulouse.
Le jour de l’inauguration officielle de la Saison croisée, alors que le Président Macron et le Premier ministre Netanyahou se rencontraient au Palais de la Découverte, notre manifestation sur les Champs Élysées a fait entendre la colère et le refus de cette opération.
Dans le registre de la prétendue ouverture d’Israël aux courants dissidents, plusieurs mobilisations ont démasqué le discours manipulateur d’Ohad Naharin, animateur de la Batsheva Dance Company, ainsi que cet article dans le journal Politis .
L’apothéose a été la représentation de cette troupe à la Maison de la danse à Lyon le 28 novembre dernier : des militants sont intervenus sur scène avec des pancartes « On ne danse pas avec l’apartheid ! » et ont été applaudis par le public!
En parallèle une saison alternative présentant des évènements de solidarité avec le peuple palestinien et intitulée « 2018 Le Temps de la Palestine » a rallié un public important sans aucun soutien institutionnel. Plus de 5000 personnes et des centaines de groupes ont organisé plus de 1000 événements labellisés du nom de cette campagne dans plus de 100 villes et villages de France. Maintenant, rideau ! : c’est l’heure des bilans …
Beaucoup d’évènements dans le cadre de cette Saison croisée ont eu peu d’audience. La préparation et les annonces de la Saison ont du se faire quasi clandestinement et toujours en dernière minute, tant les deux gouvernements associés craignaient les réactions de protestation.
L’article de Piotr Smolar dans Le Monde du 30 novembre rapporte la déception du gouvernement israélien.
Israël s’alarme de la faible résonance de la saison France Israël !
« On espérait que la culture aurait un impact diplomatique. On a mis énormément d’argent dans cette opération pour zéro succès, en ce qui concerne l’image d’Israël en France et celle de la France ici », explique une source diplomatique.
Mais la société française ne marche pas dans la combine, et la propagande ne passe plus.
Les défenseurs et les complices de l’apartheid israéliens sont de plus en plus isolés !

Et la prochaine étape, c’est la mobilisation contre la tenue de l’Eurovision 2019 en Israël !

FRANCE-ISRAEL SEASON: WHAT A FLOP!

The six-month “France-Israel Season” was supposed to be a big celebration of cultural, scientific, gastronomic cooperation…. between France and Israel.
Its promoters wanted to turn this series of events into a whitewashing operation, cleansing the State of Israel of its crimes against the Palestinian people, its constant violations of international law and universal human rights; an operation denounced by us along with dozens of French artists.
For the Israeli (and French) authorities, the aim of this “season” was to fabricate an attractive, convivial image of a State at the cutting edge of high tech, open to exchanges and cultural diversity, open to criticism and dissident movements, and even respectful of human rights. But 2018 will for ever remain as the year of the “nation state” law, giving apartheid a constitutional status, the year when Palestinians in Gaza demonstrating for the right of return were massacred or deliberately maimed by the Israeli army.
The first “France-Israel Season” event announced was an exhibition entitled “Israeli Stopover” at the University of Lille. BDS France denounced it, with the support of numerous academics, and the exhibition was cancelled.
80 artists including Jean-Luc Godard publicly declared that they would not participate in the France-Israel Season.
Demonstrations against scheduled events took place in Choisy-le-Roi, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Paris, Perpignan, Strasbourg and Toulouse.
On the day when President Macron and Prime Minister Netanyahu officially inaugurated the Season at the Palais de la Découverte in Paris, our demonstration on the Champs Elysées displayed the anger at and rejection of this operation.
In the context of the claimed openness of Israel to dissident views, the manipulative statements of Ohad Naharin, choreographer of the Batsheva Dance Company, were unmasked during several demonstrations, and by this article in Politis.
The high point of the protests against the Batsheva troupe came during its peformance in Lyon on 28 November, when activists got on to the stage, brandishing “Don’t dance with apartheid!” placards, and were applauded by the public.
Throughout 2018 an alternative “season” took place, a series of events tied to solidarity with the Palestinian people and entitled “ 2018 Le Temps de la Palestine”, which attracted a large public. More than 5,000 people and hundreds of groups organised over 1,000 events in more than 100 towns and villages in France (cf. Facebook page 2018 – Le Temps de la Palestine ).
Now that the curtain has come down, it’s time to assess the results….
Many of the events held in France as part of the France-Israel Season took place before a small audience. Preparations were carried out in a semi-clandestine manner and events were announced at the last minute, so much did the two governments fear public protests.
The Season is now over and Israel is dismayed that it did not have the desired effect.
An article in Le Monde of 30 November reports on the disappointment of the Israeli government
“We were hoping that culture would have a diplomatic impact. We put an enormous amount of money into this operation, which had zero success regarding Israel’s image in France, or that of France here”, explained an Israeli diplomatic source.
The French public didn’t fall for the ruse and the propaganda doesn’t work any more. The defenders and accomplices of Israeli apartheid are increasingly isolated, and our solidarity with the Palestinian people in the framework of the BDS campaign is stronger than ever.
The next step is mobilisation against the holding of Eurovision 2019 in Israel!
